Klinefelter Syndrome

Introduction

Klinefelter Syndrome is a disorder resulting from an extra copy of the X chromosome in males. Men with Klinefelter Syndrome are sterile and typically have reduced muscle strength, less body hair and smaller genitals and increased height, breast formation and sometimes reduced linguistic skills. As most symptoms of Klinefelter Syndrome are a direct result of increased production of X chromosomal gene products the therapeutic potential of cannabinoids is not straightforward. However, there is overlap between the cognitive deficits in Klinefelter patients (linguistic skills) and aspects of the Autism Spectrum Disorder. Therefore the therapeutic potential of cannabinoids in the treatment of Autism may also hold true for certain aspects of the Klinefelter Syndrome.
